I'm reading a book that is, for the first time, give me nightmares last night. Night by Elie Wiesel. When he describes what the nazis did to children put an image in my head of having those things done to the children that I work with every day. It keeps replaying over and over and over...

And then I realized that one of my house plants died (it wasn't my favorite, but my dad gave it to me for my birthday). A blooming house plant, which is not what I would have chosen. But I did save one plant from root rot, hopefully.

Picked up some new cds yesterday, well deserved from my cd savings bank. Staind (new and an old), Danish group Bloc Party (on Wedding Crashers), Rusted Root (Send me on my way, and perfect cleaning the house time of cd).

Babysat again for Infant Andrew on Friday while his mom and aunt went through storage for their garage sale. Got a very good (FREE!!!!) sewing machine and an oil/vinegar/salt/pepper caddy (perfect for when I'm on my own, gone into the huge trunk that's in my room, so far I have pots and pan collection from Bebe, my Persian grandmother, my great grandmother's tea pot set. I think all the things in the trunk are kitchen wares and storage wicker baskets so far, very useful when you have your first apartment and all for free).

I have come to the realization that since my room is always a mess that means that I have too much stuff and I've already downsized tremendously.

I'm currently working full time, taking an intense 4 week college course, and house sitting for a coworker. I've actually been getting overtime and this house sitting is bringing in an extra few hundred for doing less then 2 hours a day work for less then 2 weeks.

and i still have time to become addicted to tlc, bravo, and cnn. project runway marathon was the best and probably sent about 4 emails yesterday to Bri since it's his favorite show and he is naturally in Europe still. He's becoming the will to my grace (his line actually but of course the opposite way!). He gave himself a mohawk the other day, i guess that's what happens when you are drinking with new friends in London and it looks good too!

why does everyone have to be so far away? waiting to hear from my 'brother' in haifa, hopefully he's ok, knowing him, he's fine and off to the dead sea for the 5th time.

schenevus carnival tonight so i'm off to meet my family and friends for fried dough before trading spaces & what not to wear are on :)

today was my "fiance's" last day here in ny. he's so cute (remember he's a toddler: can view pics at photos.yahoo.com/miravargha under the toddler pics with the name Lee). his parents gave me a very nice note, picture, and a $25 target gift card. made him a fleece blanket with his name on it. delivered it to his house yesterday (he wasn't at brookwood and i was nervous about the weather), kept petting it. his parents told me that despite the hot weather, he insisted on using it last night.

so now i'm eating tv dinners with mom and watching west wing.

everyone i know has officially survived the flood. it went around every side of our house, we were on an island, basement was flooded, but that happens every year. vegetable field somewhat destroyed, we just might find lettuce in the radishes. sidney totally under water, oneonta half way there, franklin and otego gone. cooperstown's find. some bridges were taken out so we can't go to schenevus or worcester. to do list: call sabs and crispy cremes to see how they are.

the boy bought a house in ottawa. the pictures make it look very nice. pool. yard. nice neighborhood. finished basement with a projector coming from the ceiling to view movies on the big screen wall. 3/4 bedrooms. he says all he needs now is a family. i say one step at a time. going up to help him move in and fix it up in august.

mom's on the emergency "committee" so needs to work tomorrow putting maps together for fema might get involved. so taking nasim out for breakfast and then going to the library sale. none of those baseball freaks better get in my way, it's been one long week.

none of this changes the fact that Lee is now living in WI...

Today, Max stated, rather matter-of-factly, that two of the others hate him. Even though I did a mediation between the three of them and the other two realized that they truly don't hate him, Max just said "oh, well, didn't matter either way" and went back to what he was doing. Didn't faze him at all.

Joaquam said the following to me:
"I wish I could be a boa constrictor, so if anyone bothers me, I can just squeeze them to death."

I thought about these two perspectives for the rest of the day.

Some wise wisdom from a 8 and 6 year old (respectively)? Umph....

you can't be changed and you make sure everyone knows it. you're an individual but sometimes you may try too hard to be different. remember that true individuals do what THEY want, not the opposite of what everyone else does. you're still a very influential person.

So I was working in the athletics department the whole afternoon and let me just tell you that it was an interesting experience.

They put together a Wells College Sports catalog and I know everyone in it. Boy I'm popular! jk. But of course there were mistakes in it and my job most of the afternoon, besides showing all the soccer girls I could find their awesome pictures, was changing to of the phone numbers. I barely made a dent in the 3 boxes that they came in. The best part was??? Hearing the mix reactions from the coaches. "These things are awesome!" "They should have separated the sports into different catalogs" The best one was of course from the awesomest coach ever "What dumb asses, we couldn't get the phone numbers right!" He then continued on saying that it's ridiculous that they have me sitting for hours while there could have been other things to do (like this whole research project on the new conference).

But the highlight of my afternoon? Coach Labar giving me a huge pat on the back saying how I've continually done an amazing job on every assignment that I'm given and raving to Dean Green about how lucky the department is to have me. Dean Green and Coach Labar rock my world! (along with the awesome pics of Fay, Kirsten, Krystle, Alice, and Claire that are in the booklet, of course I took one and will be showing it off!)

I've also been chosen to be the athletics assistant the weekend after championships for the Athletics Open House. The department had a meeting and picked me to help out, of course I'll be the little piss on but I'm some what honored. I think I was the only one.

Goodness gracious, will the work ever finish!

I love book sales. Have I ever told you that before. I LOVE BOOK SALES!

So Bean and I went to Ithaca today for the library's annual book sale. My mom and I went every year when we lived there and kept going on and off for a while. So I was so glad when I found out about it in the nick of time (it finishes tomorrow)

Basically, this book sale is a two week ordeal. They fill this warehouse with books and the price is kinda high at first. This is when the book collectors go. They then close down a week later for a few days to reorganize and bring the rest of the books out (there is so many that they cannot do it all at once!)

My mom and I would go when the price went down to 25 50 cents. I would always find great unknown books. But today, since it was in the last days, everything was 10 cents a piece.

I found this book, "Cultural Literacy" by ED Hirsch Jr. and I was always told that every sociologist of education should read it so I was ecstatic when I found it!

The appendix of this book is titled "What Literate Americans Know" and it is a list of dates, terms, people, places... and it's only 60 pages.

I was fine up until I hit Acropolis. Fay was kind enough to google it and now I have more knowledge for my honeymoon to Greece :)

My new life goal: to know everything on the list.

Let's just say, I will not be dying anytime soon, sorry!

Next stop: Jeopardy!!!!!!!!!

My next favorite adventure for the day?? Standing on the roof outside my window to throw down Fay's car keys! I think I have a cool new place to sit and read!
